Today, the Assistant Director General of Ex.U.IDPs
in Marib Governorate, Dr. Khaled Al-Shujani, met with Mr. “Charles Kelly”, an environmental affairs expert in the Shelter Cluster, to discuss environmental issues and the climate in the camps for IDPs in the desert governorate of Ma’rib, within the framework of the Cluster’s ongoing efforts to preserve the environment and enhance its sustainability.
Dr.khaled Al-Shajni reviewed the conditions of IDPs in the desert governorate’s volatile terrain in light of global warming, and the variability of extreme weather conditions – such as heavy rains, droughts, heat waves and sandy storms – which makes them more difficult in terms of predictability, more intense and frequent, and increases the risks of more dangers. , including floods and desertification, which obliges organizations to convert emergency shelter into a more permanent transitional shelter that preserves the dignity of IDPs and protects against the vagaries of the desert weather.
Dr.khaled Al-Shujni emphasized promoting environmental awareness among members of IDPs community, encouraging them to actively participate in preserving the environment around them, and developing environmentally friendly projects near the camps for IDPs

For his part, Mr.Charles Kelly affirmed the cluster’s awareness of the effects of climate on food, water, land and other ecosystem services necessary for human health, livelihoods, housing and survival, and the severity of the vulnerability of women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities among IDPs to a greater extent than others, stressi ng that the cluster is committed to taking effective measures to contribute to protecting the environment and promoting sustainability.
Dr.khaled Al-Shajni praised the importance of enhancing cooperation between the cluster and other stakeholders, including environmental associations and non-governmehntal organizations, to achieve common goals in the field of environmental preservation and development, so that many joint initiatives can be implemented with the aim of achieving sustainable development and preserving the environment.
